Rockin' Fuddy-Duddies

Mat insult of the day: Yo momma is so old, she's not young

Is it possible to associate rock music with old people without involving broken backs? Yes, it is, truthfully. Provided they take their calcium.

Now these guys - senior citizens of the rock scene - definitely take their calcium like their politician counterparts take viagra. Not only that, they give live performances pumping with energy more associated with people who have seen less of this world.

These, to me, are the true rockers - those who live, breathe and sleep rock music, and not use it as an excuse to take drugs and live like a bitch.

First up, I have Bruce Springsteen, the pioneering daddy of American rock. His manic energy, rather impressive for a 57-year-old, might be derived from his political motivations. Nonetheless, whatever it is that gets him to deliver his powerful, rousing anthems has sustained him for over 20 years of performing.

This rendition of The Rising was performed during the 2003 Grammy Awards.

James Dean Bradfield - Welsh, and 37 years old. By showbiz standards and on paper, that's as glamorous as cellulite. And yet time and time again, he proves his critics wrong. Be it with the Manic Street Preachers (for whom he was guitarist and frontman) or as a solo artiste, James delivers rock hit after rock hit with youthful ease.

This live performance of his 2006 single, That's No Way To Tell A Lie was performed on the British chart show Top Of The Pops.

Okay Mick Jagger is 63. Some people that age are senile. Some people born in 1943 aren't even alive today. Well, Mick isn't senile. And he's very much alive. This song, while not a live performance, shows that he still has the ability to write hit songs even at his age, and without the help of the other Rolling Stones.

This is Old Habits Die Hard, off the Alfie (the 2004 Jude Law remake) soundtrack.
