Chick Music I Dig

Insult of the day: You are to singing what Fran Drescher is to singing.

I do not mean to be sexist, but some forms of music made by females bore me to death. But take a chill pill, you feminists - us males have the Backstreet Boys. Still, I must say that artistes the likes of Jewel (before, during and after the sexed-up Intuition) and the Spice Girls make me wish I wasn't born with ears. I mean I won't deny their appeal to other people, but I can't help but deny their appeal to me.

In my previous entry, I showed you the songs in the alternative rock genre that I like. Now, I present to you chick music I dig.

One of my favourite ladies in the music industry is Sophie Ellis Bextor. Not as dead-droppingly gorgeous or media-friendly as most women in the music industry, but she exudes class not many women the world over is able to. In the music video Murder On The Dancefloor, the English lass could actually bring coolness to line-dancing - something even the student council of Catholic Junior College was unable to do.

Very bitchy behaviour though, Sophie.
Now, when Jennifer Paige released her first single, Crush, I thought, "Goddammit Britney, stop donating your DNA to cloning facilities." In her next album however, she released the single 'Stranded', a cover of Plumb's 1999 hit. And well, it was brilliant. It had that touch of feminism that Plumb, female as she is, was unable to provide. Tomboys.

P.S, I think she's really gorgeous.

Okay the next song makes no sense at all. "This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S"? "Taik ini pisang, P-I-S-A-N-G"? (that's the translation in malay) But you can't deny that Hollaback Girl is one catchy-ass song, and that Gwen Stefani is one cool-ass chick.

I appreciate coolness. I also appreciate the hauntingly beautiful. Maybe that's why I'm a horror movie fan. But nothing compares to Dido in the hauntingly beautiful department, and she highlights that in her song, Here With Me. The vocals, the lyrics... Oh mama. Kinda random video, though.
