24th July 2006

This entry contains several videos which I think, in the universal appreciation of all that is creative and of great aesthetic value, all human beings should view.

Today I turn 20.

No need to wish me. No need to celebrate. Let me show you what these two-decade-old eyes have seen. Let me show you what I've learnt to appreciate, and what I've learnt to love. They don't necessarily come hand-in-hand.

I present to you what plays in my head. Raw.

Listen to the message I wish to bring across on the day I turn 20. Listen closely.

This entry is not only about entertainment. Nor is it about me. It is about making the world a better place.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through my eyes, I see beauty

"Believe - that life can change, that you're not stuck in vain"
Tonight, Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins

"Life is crazy, life is mad - don't be afraid"
Age Of Loneliness - Enigma

With my ears, I hear magic

"I stand up, say what I say in front of you"
Don't Say Nuthin' - The Roots

"There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don't know how"
Wonderwall - Oasis

In my heart, there is a tragic loneliness

"In my dreams I'm dying all the time"
Porcelain - Moby

"I couldn't wait till I get home, to pass the time in my room alone"
Adam's Song - Blink 182

And yet, despite that, I am driven by a sense of purpose

"Gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference - gonna make it right"
Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson

"There's no one you can save that can't be saved"
"It's easy. All you need is love"
All You Need Is Love - The Beatles (covered by Noel Gallagher)

Never will my heart be without the immense joy I have in all things

"Please repeat the message, it's the music that we choose"
19-2000 - Gorillaz

So listen to what I have to say. And trust me. I am human, like you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Look around you.

People bickering.

Hizbollah screwing Israel's northern villages. Israel bombing Lebanon from the air. Children die. Many families left with gaping abysses in their hearts.

Those who used to kiss now hit one another, physically expressing the pain in their hearts.

People cheated of their hard-earned personal belongings.

The world has become a place where everybody is obsessed with proving themselves. sometimes, so much so that they forget what their purpose was in the first place.

You don't take election rallies as a chance for self-promotion. You use it to impart ideas, and to unite the people under a set of ideals to ultimately improve their lives.

You don't own a gun to fiercely protect your pride against the mouth or facial expression of another person. You own a gun to defend the endangered lives of your loved ones, or, if the situation arises, your own.

You don't take the number of friends you have as a personal statistic. It is the number of people whose mental well-being you are partially responsible for.

You do not do something for a girl because you expect something in return - her love, or sex. You do it because of your genuine emotions for her.

You do not possess your pride to be above other people. You possess your pride because you can bring and inspire other people up to your level.

When people play soccer, they are not divided into different teams. They are united under one beautiful game.

Perhaps in this age of dog-eat-dog, my words are a flourish of impossible idealism. That is, if the entire population of the world were to follow it. But if I could get at least one person to read these words and keep it to his heart, it would be one less person to contribute to the ruthlessness and insanity of the world around us today.

It could be a very small difference, but at least there will be a few more smiles to light up this world of ours.
