When you look at my people - the Javanese of well, Java - in this day and age, you'd get very sad first impressions. The Javanese people of today are poor, violent, and brutish. Not all, but enough to make the impression.
Remember the last Asian Economic Crisis? What do you remember of Javanese people? They riot, they looted, overturned cars. They allowed the Chinese to run their economy for them. And when things go bad, they blame those very Chinese people. Thing is, they probably wouldn't do a better job themselves.
It's not that I have anything against my race. It's just that some of them are really heartless when things go bad. Some of them are really unrefined. A Java Man loves poor defenseless animals. With nice gravy.
Well, maybe it's not their fault. They've had it bad. These guys are POOR. They're so poor, the richer ones buy imitations of fake Rolexes. They're so poor, some of their parents probably got marrried just for the rice.
But some humanity from a race simply surrounded by it would be nice.
I think Javanese people have the potential to achieve great things. It's in our genes. We had an entire empire all to ourselves man, the Majapahit empire. What happened to our organizational abilities, God knows. However, we did retain the pride from there. This has served The Javanese people rather poorly, obviously.
Other than being proud, the Javanese are also genetically intelligent, shrewd people. The things opium can do to your brains... The Javanese of the Majapahit era were an intelligent bunch. During its foundation years, Kublai Khan demanded tribute from another Javanese empire, the Singhasari empire, the bitter enemies of the Majapahits. When the Singhasaris refused to pay tribute, Khan sent an expedition to the shores of Java. Jayakatwang, founder of the Majapahits, allied with Khan's troops and defeated the Singhasari Empire, obliterating it in the process. Then, in the confusion of the post-war administration, Jayakatwang turned on his allies, chasing them back to the land of flat steppes (That's Mongolia you dumbass). Conniving bastards, some might exclaim. I see it as playing smart.
I bet the Javanese could have made significant contributions in the field of Mathematics, philosophy and Science. I bet a Javanese Man could have discovered the laws of gravity. Sir Isaac Newton was lucky. In England, they had apple trees. In Java, they had durian trees. The guy who really discovered the law of gravity probably snuffed it while doing so.
Mathematics? Hell, Javanese people can really count. Especially how much money other people owe them. But in that, philosophy comes into play. Culture and cross-breeding with other Malay races in the Malay Archipelago have taught them compassion, humility, and a fierce sense of community. Perfect breeding ground for confused people. And confused people are philosophical. Because philosphy is confusing. See the link?
For now, it is a matter of waiting for the current wave of terrorism-related violence to die down in South-East Asia, and for a leader among the Javanese to stand out, and gather those people as a beacon of moral values, courage and determination.
Only then can the Javanese be seen as a cultured culture.
