50% Friends, 50% Family

A certain military officer of mine told me recently that I should write more about my personal life in my blog. Instantly, I had an orgy of images flash across my mind (knowing some of the readers who come to my blog, I must explain that 'orgy' does not necessarily mean 'group sex'. Cheerios). I saw my soul, naked and raw, imprinted upon the screen of a monitor, writhing in the agony of pre-adulthood. Okay, maybe technically that's just one image, but its still an image of indulgent, uncontrolled and immoderate activity. Furthermore, I would abhor it if my blog were to degenerate into some sort of dating ad.

So let me start slow with this...

Most people tell me that my greatest strength, and my greatest flaw, is that I am a big, tangled bag of unpredictability. People have tried to categorize me, and have failed miserably. I guess it is because I see no need to urgently highlight to people around me my strengths and capabilities. It would come out when I want it to, for a cause I believe in. Anything other than that would be unnecessary ego-tripping and a waste of energy.

Only a small handful of individuals are able to see beyond the unpredictability.

I have a group of 5 friends who are, to me, 50% friends, 50% family. A couple of them are 100% lunatics, but that's another story. We met in St. Joseph's Insitution (SJI), the ultimate bastion of fun and entertainment to us. That was when we were 14. Now, over 5 years on, we remain the best of friends - not only as a group of 6, but among ourselves as individuals also. Let me tell you about them.

Okay, look at the picture below. Look really really closely at its centre. Stare really hard, smack in the centre. Do not blink. Think about all your misdeeds in life. Slowly roll the picture upon the fingertips of your mind. Feel its texture. Bathe yourself with the emotion it is endowed with. Did you see someone waving at you? No? Neither did I. Good way to waste time though, huh?

Okay but seriously, look at the picture. This picture is a drawing of my 5 best friends and me. Let me introduce them to you.

The 6 SJIM

(From Left to Right)
Aizat. Aizat is the captain of my cohort's tennis team, back in my days at St. Andrew's Junior College, in which he was also my classmate and number one hang-out buddy. So basically, we've seen each other everyday from secondary school, all the way up to junior college. Don't let the neat prefect's tie (yes Aizat was a prefect in SJI) and spectacles fool you; Aizat's head is filled with nonsense of the highest order. He may be training to be a military officer right now, but Aizat shall always be my number one partner in crime. Very likely to: Quote the lyrics of Twisted Transistor by Korn.

Mus. Mus is deep, intelligent, proud, artistic, elitist and as a result of all that, bullshits a lot. You can see it in the picture, can't you? The elitist jacket, the proud back-off-bitch face, the deep forehead. I met Mus in Secondary 1, back when I was 13, and learnt a lot in the matters of life with him. Very likely to: retire and live in a secluded beach villa in Spain. Or imagining all that really hard in his head.

Nas. Nas is my cousin's cousin. I believe he is one of the best one-liner comedians ever. On top of that, he's blessed with natural soccer skills. Nas is very fortunate to have been the subject of normal parenting. If Nas had been raised by say, the Osbournes, he would have wreaked havoc on Earth to make the Antichrist wet his pants. He would have cursed and sworn to make death metal songs sound like nursery rhymes. But then when he's around other people, he's the most decent, introverted angel. Very likely to: do the can-can and cross-dress in private.

Is (Iskandar). Strong, stable, spiritual, but with the playfulness and sense of mischief that marks a true SJI dude. Same platoon as Aizat in Officer Cadet School. Only difference is, he's enamoured toward military life, and wishes to sign on...as a Guardsman. Khaki beret and shit. Very likely to: prefer discipline over D-cups.

To Is' right would be me.

Then we have Nazir. Nazir has been my best friend since I was 11. Tall, dark and handsome to your average poor-sighted individual. Nazir's a riot to be with, and yet he possesses the emotional maturity that has seen us through 9 years of growing up, adjustments and change. Very likely to: migrate to China.

So there you have it, 5 of the very few people who know me inside-out. If Rock And Roll is my heart, Porn is my mind and Soccer is my body, these 5 guys are my soul.
